A Necessary Cube consists of a silver air sac t hat rapidly expands to fill the entire room,then again quickly contracts to a single corner of the space. While inflating, the action provides an uncertain experience of crisis; in t he moment of transition, as t he sense of danger recedes, it transforms instantly into a ruined pile of unspecific form, forming a visual dia lectic in its inflation and deflation.
